If you have made it to college and entered the first week of the semester these thoughts should be pretty familiar for you. The first week has gained the name Syllabus Week, as it is the week of classes you review the syllabus and requirements for your courses that semester. Somewhere along the line, it developed the slang name of “Chill-abus” Week, however I can honestly say I’ve never felt “chill” during this week. Running to the store for more supplies, buying loads of books, packets, and access codes, and running to the other side of campus in 10 minutes for the first time are all things you can get a little bit of anxiety about. The thoughts that popped into my head varied between positive and negative which I feel is something many can relate to. Just a heads up to the freshman who thought “chill-abus” week was indeed a thing, I am betting you have discovered the exact opposite. And for those who may experience it in the future, here is a fore-warning to what you should be prepared for. And as a New Girl fan, I decided Jess, Nick, Winston, and Schmidt tell it best.

1. Yes, professors do start teaching the first day of lecture.

2. It is assumed that you will read/listen closely to what is on the syllabus because there is information on there you might need for the first exam or the final.

3. Free food is EVERYWHERE.

4. It is a thing to pet away stress with the shelter puppies on campus.

5. You will realize just how early you need to wake up to make it to your 8:30 class on time.

6. The people who say they go out every night this week are lying.

7. Buy your books early in the morning or before this week, otherwise, you’ll be in line for two hours.

8. You’ll have classes you’ll walk in and know no one.

9. You’ll also have classes you know half the people in there.

10. The amount you sweat this week is greater than any other week of school.

11. You’ll figure out you can type/write a whole lot faster than you knew.

12. The tears start flowing on Monday night.

13. You'll realize how refreshing a ten-minute power nap is.

14. "Write a fun/interesting fact about yourself.”

15. After buying your textbooks you will want to declare bankruptcy.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
