Syllabus week is arguably the easiest yet most boring week of college. During syllabus week, one is expected to sit still for hours and listen to professors blabber on about course content and their various rules. In many cases, syllabus week also involves meeting new people, introducing oneself, and engaging in so-called "icebreaker" games. While there are mixed feelings when it comes to syllabus week, this is how "Gossip Girl" sees syllabus week:
1. "I don't feel like I fit in anywhere"
During syllabus week there will always be those students that had prior familiarity with the subject matter and will answer the majority of questions the professor posses. At times like this, where everyone seems very knowledgeable regarding the course content, will one feel like one does not fit in anywhere.
2. "Don't leave. Everybody leaves"
This particular quote pertains to how professors feel during syllabus week. During syllabus week, many students add or drop classes. There are also times during syllabus week where many students simply leave during the middle of class because they absolutely hate the class and it wasn't what they were expecting. Of course, students leaving or dropping classes will slightly bother professors, because who wants to have an empty classroom?
3. "You were supposed to be different"
Students might say "you were supposed to be different" in regard to a class. Often times, the description of a course and the actual course itself are very different and therefore it can be a bit shocking when one gets to class and sees a completely different classroom environment and or content than the one described in the syllabus.
4. "I'm Chuck Bass"
Syllabus week means introducing oneself. There will, of course, always be those professors or students that don't fully give a proper introduction and feel as if their name says it all.
5. "Here's my advice. Have a little faith, and if that doesn't work, have a lot of mimosas"
While syllabus week in itself is easy, when the professor goes through all the course assignments, can syllabus week feel a bit overwhelming. One will, of course, try to be positive and say one will ace all the exams and quizzes, but in reality, one knows that eventually, one will slowly start to give less and less effort as the course progresses.
6. "What's wrong with me"
One might say "what's wrong with me?" if one finds oneself getting a bit skittish when it comes to introducing oneself to the whole class. I myself feel ridiculous when I feel nervous to introduce myself because there really shouldn't be a reason to feel nervous.
7. "Just let me go"
It's always difficult getting back into school mode and therefore sitting still for an hour or two can be challenging. One might stare at the clock and silently hope for the professor to dismiss the class early because who wants to sit and listen to the sometimes monotone blabber.
8. "This was nice, though"
In the end, one will say "this was nice, though" once syllabus week has ended. Syllabus week is easy and once its over will one appreciate its core simplicity.
