College is a cycle of waves that consists of various emotions all occurring together. Who in their right mind would want to experience such an emotional rollercoaster for about nine months? Well... everyone.
Being away from home allows you to have that mix of adulthood while still being sheltered. I mean, come on… it’s not like you are the one paying tuition or adding money into your own bank account almost every week or two.
There is the security of living within the walls of your school, yet still making your own choices without consequences and/or unwanted opinions from your parents.
Even though college provides freedom and independence, there is no shame in wanting to come home.
Just because you say you want to come home doesn’t lessen the love you hold for your school.
Home means homemade food cooked by the people you love the most.
Home means getting to reconnect with your high school friends after months of just texting and video chatting.
Home means being able to drive around the place that helped you grow into the person you are today.
Most importantly, home feels like a little vacation from college (i.e., no homework, no classes, no roommate).
While being at college is many things, it will never be your true home. That title is dedicated to the place where it all started. A place that provides immediate comfort, even if it's not sought after.
No one is too “old” or too “sophisticated” to want to go home. If you think that, that's when you know you’re lying to yourself.
While I am excited for next semester, break can definitely take its time in passing.
