How To Survive The First Week Of Spring Semester

It's rough, but I've got some tips for you!

We all know how rough coming back from winter break can be, especially if you spent all three weeks back home with your family, but it'll be okay. Just take a deep breath, and give yourself a moment. These are just my tips on how I survive that first week of spring semester.

1. Don't skip class!

If you skip class that first week, you're pretty much setting yourself up for failure because what's to keep you from skipping any other day of the semester? Not to mention that you'll be making a bad first impression on your new professors.

2. Write everything down.

Your class schedule, where all your classrooms are, what books and supplies you need for each class. It is actually proven science that writing things down--on paper!--actually helps you remember things better.

3. Give yourself some extra time.

This is especially helpful if you have classes in a building you've never been in before. It'll give you the time you need to make sure that you're there with a little bit of time to spare so you're not rushing. Not to mention, here at Ball State it's winter time, meaning snow and ice and wind that hurts your face, so a little extra time to get places is nice.

4. Don't be afraid to talk to strangers!

If you're lost in a new building, don't be afraid to talk to someone who seems pretty comfortable in the building and ask how to get to your class. People on campus are actually super nice if you give them the opportunity. If you don't have any friends in a class, don't be afraid to try to make friends with someone who sits close to you. Even if you guys don't stay friends or see one another outside of class, it's just nice to have someone to talk to in class.

5. Dress for success.

Now, I can practically hear you groaning through the screen at the thought of dressing up for your 8 AM--or heck, your noon class--but that's not what this tip means for me. To me, this tip means dress so you feel comfortable and confident that first week. If you feel comfortable and confident dressed up, that's fine, but if it's in a pair of sweats and a T-shirt, go for it!

So good luck to you this spring! Pass your classes, kick some butt, and make some memories. Welcome to 2018, friends.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
