The Importance Of Supporting Local Musicians
Cynthia Munrayos

If you’re looking around for new music to listen to, lurk around for the local musicians because there is so much raw talent in the world you still don’t know about; let alone our tiny state.

In fact, take advantage that we’re a small state because it’d make those musicians more easy to find. Even then, you’re still bound to miss that one vibe you wished you had known about on the ride home. Believe it or not, Rhode Island is very diverse in its own small world of music.

I’m really blessed to have grown up in such a music supporting community. Your local musicians are always going to be who and what represent your state, country, province, town, village, street etc. Your local musicians, apart from other fine art individuals, are what give your city edge and style. It is what makes our society better; well, sometimes.

For the most part, music is essential to the human life. It brings us together. As much as we love bigger people like Kanye West, Anderson .Paak, Rihanna, Paramore, etc. We should and always support the little people. To spread one’s creativity will only expand our intellect. Maybe walking into a cafe with live music, might help you find the most complete satisfaction to your body. It can make your day so easily. It can brighten your soul a little more knowing there are still struggling artists who continue to go after their dream despite how far they make it. Sometimes, they even keep it more real than the big artists, if they really own their potential.

Supporting your local musicians gives them hope, and it gives you hope for more great music. Creating is a crucial action to us, and it’s so incredible to believe you’ll never hear every bit of sound in a lifetime. From my point of view, I am both a local musician and a founder for local musicians. I think if we have the opportunity to share one street singer’s cover of "Toxic" by Britney Spears, it will not only make them happy, but it will inspire you to do the same for yourselves. Plus, you get the honor to listen to that one drummer who spent their hours in a practice room, just to perform for you. Listening to a group of strangers will bring nourishment to the brain. It can distress you for a while.

Also, why not get the chance to see someone before they become a big time performing act. Despite their actual chance of making it big, you should let them know you’re there for them. It’s a win win. You get to hear a solid rap act to witness some fresh talent. You think it warms your heart to hear a band play good music.

Imagine what is like for them, to know that someone actually appreciates and enjoys the songs they have rehearsed a million times. There’s nothing better than feeding the mind some good music. It’s bound to start a good conversation between a couple of music lovers. So why not support your local musicians for the sake of spreading hope and some fine tunes?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
