There are so many avenues for creative people these days because social media can literally take someone's Instagram or Twitter from 100 followers to one million followers in the blink of an eye. Photographers are trying to build their brand, videographers are wanting to film more so they can hopefully become a director one day, aspiring hair stylists are constantly needing someone to practice on, makeup artists are perfecting their craft daily, and musicians are posting on Soundcloud and YouTube trying to get noticed.
Creatives are virtually nothing without a good support system because, at the end of the day, they need someone who will believe in them.
If your friend is a photographer and you want some new pictures to post on your feed, then pay for a session; they may give you a 'friends and family discount' if they offer it. If your friend is trying their hardest to practice makeup, pay for a beat and then post about how good they did. If your friend is a videographer, pay for a shoot so that they can have content to post. If your friend is a musician, promote their music by purchasing whatever merch or physical copies they are selling. If you want your hair done, ring up your friend and see if they'll do it and offer to pay them for a job well done.
Creatives are good people to have as friends, but just because they have that creative eye, doesn't mean you can take advantage of that or of them. Don't expect to get anything for free just because that's your best friend or relative. Some people don't mind doing things for free, but personally, if they are taking time out of their day of editing, practicing, or writing to give you some clout, the least you could do is pay them. They work so hard to be great, so support your friend always, all ways.
