"Avengers: Infinity War" has been, and will be, the biggest superhero movie of all time. Marvel had been building up this movie for ten years when they came out with the first "Iron Man". Marvel has been the biggest and most successful provider of superhero movies for the past decade. But I'm here to tell you that we are in the golden age for superhero movies, with DC coming for the throne.
If we start talking about popular superhero movies, we have to talk about "Batman." DC and comic book fans alike can agree that the original Superhero movies started with "Batman." Seeing this rich bachelor take on crime was awesome back in the day. DC seemed to control all of the successful movies, but technology got better and people started to get sick of "Batman" only movies. This is when Marvel came to the scene in 2008 and came out with "Iron Man."
"Iron Man" was an instant hit. Kids were buying Iron Man suits for Halloween, buying merchandise and wanting more. This was the first movie out of now twenty for Marvel. "Iron Man 2" followed and after ten years we just saw the release of "Ant-Man And The Wasp" Marvel is seriously the best right now because they always bring amazing content. They are funny, interesting, caring, and emotional. Not only are they raking in billions, but they continue to make society happy with amazing movies. They are the first company to create a movie with an African American lead in "Black Panther" in 2018. It broke box office records and fans from all across fell in love. Marvel's next movie "Captain Marvel" will debut in 2019, and Captain Marvel will be the first female-led actress in their movies. I can guarantee it's going to be a box office success and people will line at the door waiting for it. There is no doubt that Marvel has kicked ass in the box office, but DC is trying to make a come back.
While "Batman" and "Superman" have been cash cows for DC, they have failed to bring a good movie to the theaters in well over a decade. There is some light through, "Wonder Woman" made its debut in theaters in 2017, and was the first movie with a female lead being the main superhero. The movie was awesome and it was their best installation in a long time. DC then came out with "Justice League" later in 2017 and it was a good start. It was not anything like what Marvel has come out with, but it wasn't a bad movie. "Aquaman" will make its way into theaters this year in December and "Shazam" will come out in 2019. Both movies are expected to be good from DC, so they may be able to contest Marvel one day. This day may be far away, but it's pretty cool that we all get to watch superhero films.
Whether you are a fan of Marvel, DC, or both, there is no doubt that we are lucky to see all of these movies. We have never lived in a time where superhero movies were coming out every few months, and it is really making us happy. If you have yet to watch any of these movies, please go watch. I promise it won't disappoint.
