Everyone's end goal is to get to where you are now. Well, maybe not exactly where you are now, but remember that not everyone made it this far in their college career. You've put in your time, and eventually, you'll walk across that stage. Even if you're not graduating on time it's not a race to finish line. Complete it at your own pace.

1. "Aren't you graduating soon?"

Let me get back to you on that when I see how this semester goes. In fact, even if this semester goes well don't ask. I'm pretty sure my expected graduation date just reads "IDK" on Blackboard. I'll just send you an invitation when happens.

2. "How old are you?"

Whether it be meeting freshman at parties or seeing your bright eyed new sorority sisters, you start to feel out of place. Don't worry you'll be grateful to be able to grab a margarita after a long day of heavy lecturing, but you'll be annoyed at the number of people trying to befriend you to buy them alcohol.

3. "What are you doing with your degree?"

I have a general idea of what I can do with my degree, and I hope that it pans out. I don't have any experience yet so I'm just looking to catch a break.

4. "Isn't it really expensive for an extra year?'

It's expensive to go to college period. A lot of scholarships are only for two or four years so that last year comes out of pocket for a lot of people. Yes, it's expensive to go for any extra time, but I've come this far and I want my degree.

5. " So did you just fail a bunch of classes?"

You're not going to make a lot of friends asking this question, and it's none of anyone's business anyway. There are several factors that go into that extra year like maybe having to take fewer classes because of financial reasons, or changing your major. Don't be rude.

6. " Are you taking a gap year to travel?"

Some people decide to travel for a year before stepping into the "real world." However, I have to start paying my loans back after six months so I'm not going anywhere but to work. I'm just trying not to create more debt than I can handle. I'll gladly stow away in anyone's suitcase that is going traveling.

7. "What about grad school?"

I have been in school for the majority of my life. I just want to get into the part where I'm finally making money instead of drowning in more debt and trying to fix ramen different ways to not get bored. If this is an option for you, I applaud you, but I'm so done research papers and notes. I burning these notebooks when I'm done.

8. "Are you ready to be done?"

I am just as done with school as I am terrified of leaving it. I don't know what I want to do, but I know if I could be a professional student I probably would be. It's been an amazing four year so far. I'm ready to take on the victory lap.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
