Human beings have a natural urge to express themselves through music. Often this is how people cope with the loss of a significant other or the reality of waking up alone. Boohoo. It’s irrational to think that someone can just shimmy off feelings – however it does help. Shake what your mama gave you and mend your own heart along the way. Don’t dwell on the negative and sing your sorrows away- while at the same time remembering that you are a prize, dime piece, magnificent human being.

Often people relate to songs because it captures their pain- but if you really want to make a move you have to surpass the norm. bUt Don’t glorify a toxic relationship.

Anywho, these are ten songs to belt your heart out to .

10) Cindy Lauper- Time after Time

This song is only applicable for the first week of heart break. Mainly because there has to be a point where you notice that the person is not going to come after you in the rain. Don’t wait on someone that does not pick you ‘time after time’.

9) Roxette - It must have Been Love

As much as you want this song to apply to you, you would have had to be in love. Real love, like would donate my kidney to you, or even my whole heart- literally & figuratively. Regardless, the loss of this is survivable. It doesn’t matter how good or wonderful your memory of the love is, you have to be able to kick some dirt and let it go.

8) Selena- Dreaming of you

Instead of staying up and thinking of him/her, you could be getting a good night’s sleep, ready for a productive day tomorrow. Stop accepting that you are a shadow in someone’s life and be the sun in your own. If you are literally dreaming of the other person, don’t take it as a “oh that means their thinking of me too” bs- sorry. The best way to cure this is to help the person off the high pedestal they’re on– that often they also don’t want to be on.

7) Bonnie Raitt- I Can’t Make You Love Me

If you want to break your own heart with the power of music, listen to this song. It highlights all the downfalls of leading yourself on. It’s true, you can be the reddest, most ripe apple on the tree, but if that person prefers oranges there is not much you can do about that. Realize that you cannot change a person- and if they have to change in order to fit your mold, they’re not the person for you.

6) Dolly Parton - Jolene

If you ever have to ask another person to leave your significant other in order for you to be with them – reconsider your life choices. You can’t make a person want you, and you can’t force a person to pick you, it’s just not for you baby. No need to hold on to something that already has their hands filled. You will be happy again, you will feel butterflies again. It just takes time.

5) Christina Aguilera- Hurt

It’s important to realize that often you hurt other people when you are trying to heal. If you hold this person to high regards, this song is an apology for the pain you caused them. Not only what caused the break up, but how the situation was handled thereafter. For real, no one is an angel and often your alienating comments towards an individual only causes more harm. You’re not innocent- don’t be toxic to yourself and them, just let it be.

4) Lady Gaga – Speechless

In this ‘Little Mermaid’ like love story you realize that you’re left speechless while everyone’s life moves on. As brave as it is to ask someone to be yours unconditionally, you have to understand 'no' is also an answer. It’s not rational for you to settle for a broken heart either, you can’t place the potential of your happiness on someone else’s lap. You have to admit that true love does not come with lavish hair and a great smile- rather through commitment and honest communication.

3) Sleeping with Sirens- James Dean & Audrey Hepburn

If you’re a hopeless romantic, you’re the one to stand your ground through the seasons- regardless of the odds. It could be for simple things like, your hand fits perfectly in his/hers, or even if you’re broken heart still skips a beat when you see them. If you’re brave enough to admit to yourself that they’re the one- be ready for either high disappointment or be willing to wait forever for them. As ridiculous as that sounds, love knows no rational.

2) Coldplay- Fix you

This songs highlights the true feelings of loss, remorse and recovery. No matter how broken you are, there are always hands that are trying to help you get back on your feet. And highlighting the importance of looking passed your current state and finding happiness again. It’s important to learn from your mistakes and to forgive others for theirs. No matter how bad it is, it will get better- just give it time.

1) Sam Smith – Leave your Lover

If you’re the most fearless person alive, with no regrets and a single goal in mind you can always ask your significant other to pick you. Not in a narcissistic, or conceited or dramatic way- but rather in a wholesome loving way. To ask someone to leave their life and pick you is outrageous unless you know for a fact that you are hands down made for them and no one else. Muster the courage to do what makes you happy. Sometimes the only way to mend a broken heart is to give it what it wants;)

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
