There are hundreds of reasons to spend time at the lake. Being near the water is a very special privilege. If you have a lake home I urge you to take advantage of it and live up your summer with family and friends.

Our lake house has been our go-to vacation spot my whole life. My childhood memories are filled with days swimming in the lake, making homemade ice cream, and lighting fireworks. When I think of the lake house I think relaxation. Our lake house has become a sanctuary for family and friends. We often find ourselves saying things like “ugggg I just need a lake day” or “And to think I could be at the lake right now”. This is because on the lake we can remove ourselves from our day-to-day and just relax or explore the outdoors. In our rural part of TN we are exposed to an array of wildlife just outside our windows. At the lake, you can sit on the porch and watch the birds for hours and not worry if there is something better that you should be doing.

This Memorial Day the families are getting together to spend the holiday. This means that we will be grilling, fishing, and swimming all weekend long. Frogs are calling and birds are chirping which means that summer is officially upon us. We love summers here because it gives us a chance to get everyone together. Our family travels all the way from California to be in their home on the lake. We start any lake weekend with a good fire on the front porch. Playing johnny Cash radio on pandora sets the tone for the evening. The smell of citronella is in the air and family is all around. What could be better?

Don’t hesitate to spend a summer on a lake because it is the best time away from home!

There is so much to do on the water and in the cabin!

You can go for a bike ride

Go fishing

Take a walk

Swing on the porch

Make a fire Go for a swim

Sing songs

Watching movies

Dance a dance

Go hiking

Ride jet skis

Watch birds

Shoot fireworks

Float on a raft

Hang in a Hammock

Read a book

AND connect with the people you care about!

Take a chance on a Lake home this Summer! You won't regret it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
