Reality Check: Summer's Halfway Gone!

With only a few weeks until the inevitable beginning of school, it's time to make the most of the rest of summer "vacation."

Reality Check: Summer's Halfway Gone!

According to anybody you ask, summer's just started. It's only been a few weeks since the official beginning of the season, but in the eyes of a student, summer vacation is coming to its last few weeks. The beginning of July is the milestone for students to start getting their act straight and realizing that vacation doesn't last forever.

The last few weeks have been a disaster in every aspect of the word; the month of June was unbelievably memorable in a topical sense of current events in the world, but now that that's over with, reality is inevitably striking and it's time to focus! As a student, I still haven't started my summer homework, but for good reason, as I describe in a previous article. It's about that time for most other students too.

June ending is also an awakening for those overachievers to start their school shopping. People who like to get ahead know how much of a pain shopping for school is in august, when every parent is fighting for the last pack of pencils. July is the perfect time to do some of that back-to-school shopping for the students who are willing to accept that school is almost back!

For certain grades, July tells them that their summer of free time is officially over, and they need to start doing what they said they would do over the summer. For rising juniors and even some sophomores, it's time to start those SAT classes and make the most of free hours without tireless homework, like during the school year. Likewise, it's time to maybe start that summer job before it's too late!

All of these little things may seem like common sense to the student or person who's used to working ahead and doing what they do, but for a typical procrastinating student, it's time to wake up and begin.

Like I said, June was very memorable, but that part of the summer is over. With only five weeks left until the first day of school, a majority of summer vacation has dissipated, and it's time to make the most of these last few weeks for every student out there. Reality check: There's no time like the present.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
