Frankie's 5 Summer Essentials

For a great summer all I need is these 5 things and anything is possible.

Frankie's 5 Summer Essentials

Hello summer and hello June! June, the first sign of summer. Being a June baby I have a complete bias in saying that June is the best month. Technically, summer doesn't start until June 21st, but since I graduated high school already, I've just been trying to enjoy the weather.

So far Mother Nature has been pretty kind to the East Coast, even with her random thirty minute rainfall sessions. Besides that I have been enjoying my time spent either at home or at work. No matter if you are traveling around, or if the only traveling you're doing is from your room to the kitchen: I have created a list of the five things that are needed for an amazing summer of 2018.

Now some of these may be more person oriented than others, but that's only because every situation is different and some people are in a different place in their life than I am. So with that being said, please be advised that I am a seventeen year old girl who hasn't gotten to college yet. I know this means I have a lot to learn and experience, but the things mentioned have helped my spirits be lifted(especially #3 ;)). So here are the things that I want to keep close to my heart all summer.

1. A Positive Outlook

Yes, we're already border lining topics of; "what is my purpose" or "Why am I here right now?", and this is because when the big questions have answers or at least ideas of what you want the answer to be: things get better. Being happy with your situation is very important, no matter if you are chilling on your couch, or maybe somewhere exotic like Aruba. It's always okay to happy where you are, because things can always get worse. So I am grateful for every single day that I get to walk this Earth, and I smile unconditionally because my location shouldn't matter.

2. Trying New Trends and Styles

Everybody has a summer wardrobe, it can be full of things you don't usually wear all the time. My wardrobe over the year has compiled to piles of grey, black, and white clothing. It was almost like I had the same outfit but with different variations. I just recently became super interested into patterns, red, and shades of yellow. This YouTuber I follow always links yellow to happiness, so why not dress on the outside like you feel on the inside?

So all summer I will be trying to wear brighter colors. It's too hard to wear black all the time, it makes me sweaty thinking about it. I recently bought a pair of white floral Birkenstocks, which is crazy because all my shoes are black.

I remember texting my mom and asking her opinion, I think she was just happy they weren't black and that they weren't Vans. In the picture (above or below) my best friend Jill and I are wearing floral rompers. I own one romper besides the one shown(above/below), and it honestly took me forever to put it on. I'm so glad I did though, as you can see Jill and I were smiling hard.

3. FANNY PACKS!!!

Ever since my sophomore year of high school, I have been trying to convince almost everyone that fanny packs are the wave. It seems as if the trend is finally catching on, because I was not the only one who wore a fanny pack with their graduation dress. Now I am not the spokesperson for fanny packs (I mean I could be if someone asked), but fanny packs are so resourceful and efficient.

Now whether you want to put snacks in it while you are chilling out on the couch or put some essentials in it for a long flight, a fanny pack can help you out. To be honest with you, I have never been a purse girl, I do not like purses, I like fanny packs though, because they are more convenient.

Fun fact you can wear your fanny pack to amusement parks and they will never ask you to take it off. My fanny packs have traveled with me to Hershey Park, Six Flags, and even to Hogwarts (in Universal Studios). A day at an amusement park can all be fit into one tiny pouch, and that pouch is always secured; because it is right there around your waist.

4. A Good Source of Entertainment

Whether you binge every night and every day until you pass out or you just need something to do on the ride to your destination: A good source of entertainment can go a long way. This time I'm spending my summer in my house, and in a few short weeks Netflix and I have become best friends.

Something that I usually do during the summer is watch all the shows that I have missed while at school, it is binge-watching at its finest and I could be a professional. But I do balance that out, to make sure my brain doesn't go completely numb; I also read a lot of books. I have a bookshelf full of good reads that I can't read during the school year, but when the summer hits I can't put them down and I like them so much I reread some too.

No matter what you like to watch or read there is a plethora of ways for you to access them. There is Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, the bookstore, and even magazines that can help pass the time.

If you need something to watch I suggest: Black Lightning, Riverdale, The Office, or Criminal Minds. And if you need something to read my suggestions are: The School for Good and Evil series, Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda, Struck by Lightning, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

5. A Dope Music Playlist

The most important thing to have all summer is music. Music is the gateway to the soul and the emotions a person feels. Music can change your entire mood, the way I feel can be affected by music very easily: which is why I have so many playlists on Spotify for all my moods.

All my playlists have quirky titles and songs that can range from rap, alternative, hip hop, and even Disney music. One thing that'd great and fun to do is go to summer concerts and music festivals, and I mean if you have the money great! If not you can watch the live streams or Instagram stories of literally anyone there.

As an early birthday present last year, my mom bought me tickets to go see Chance the Rapper at Governor's Ball and it was amazing. It was probably my favorite concert because everyone was just hanging out and jamming to the music.

Now my summer might not be me visiting every continent, or swimming with Dolphins, but I'm cool with that. This summer all I plan to do is hang out with all my friends and work. This is my last summer before college and I plan to take it one day at a time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
