My Vulernable Summer Nights

Sometimes you have to expose the vulnerable parts of your life to grow, and really feel alive.

My Vulernable Summer Nights
Odyssey

This poem was written during my sophomore year during high school, A time where I questioned myself with almost everything I did. I used to be ashamed that I felt this weak, that I felt so worthless. However, I realized that in order to grow stronger, I must own up to every part of my life, good or bad. I am conquering my past, and I have never felt better, stronger and more alive. I want people to know that I was insecure about myself, and that i am willing to make myself vulnerable and put my past out there to make an example that you can be a better version of yourself than the one you were yesterday, last week, last month or even last year.

Summer Nights,

A time where teens are reckless,

A time where teens are wild,

But most importantly they're careless.

Not a care in the world haunts their minds.

Summer Nights is when the teens come out,

they party, they drink,

Their laughter of a good time fills the air.

Along with the lashes that linger from the bonfire.

But that is not the only entity that is lingering.

They may sit and they may take a glance above them.

To see the lustrous stars dancing before them,

But little do they know,

Someone else is looking up at the dusky night sky with them,

wishing that they could fade into the darkness.

This lost soul spends her summer nights, alone.

In the depths if her room, she faces her demons.

She is subjected to their torment, and she weeps.

They insult her.

They abuse her.

They tell her how worthless she is.

How unsightly she is.

How she is anything but perfect.

"You'll never be exceptional." They jeer.

Then she glimpses at them.

But instead of finding demons,

she finds herself looking back at her.

The hot tears streamed continuously.

Her tormentors were dismal thoughts.

It was her.

Scanning over the image she sees before her,

a river breaks loose again.

An unsatisfied feeling courses through her,

and if things can't get any worse,

She remembers.

Remembers that she is home alone,

Her door is locked

Remembers she has never uttered a word.

But most importantly she remembers,

How nobody knows how unhappy she is.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
