We are right in the middle of summer which means three things, classes are over, most college students are back home, and any sense of routine college, university, or school has given you has disappeared.
While staying out late and sleeping all day are summer staples, there are other things you need to do to. Staying out late and then showing up to work looking and feeling dead gets exhausting fast.
Sticking to a routine, even a small one, can help you feel more productive and awake after a long night. A simple morning routine is better than no morning routine and you can customize this one in a way that works for you.
Set an alarm and stick to it.
Sleeping until noon is great when you need it but not everyday. Your alarm doesn't have to be set super early unless you work in the morning. Just make sure that you are out of bed and moving before noon most days.
Make your bed.
I know getting out of bed in the morning when you just want to sleep is one of the hardest things to do in the morning, but you have to do it.
Making your bed will make you less likely to jump back under the covers because messing it up again means you have to remake it again.
Take care of your body.
This step can be a simple on or one filled with many steps. If you workout in the mornings, that step would go here along with all the little ones like brushing your teeth and hair, showering, and putting on things like deodorant and perfume/cologne.
Put on an outfit that makes you feel cute.
If you are wearing an outfit that you feel good in, it's going to be cute no matter what. this can be anything like a casual outfit, a lazy day outfit, or even a fancy one if that's what your day calls for.
Getting dressed in something that makes you happy will help you ease into your day and start your day off in a good mood.
Eat breakfast.

I know that some people aren't hungry in the mornings and that's okay. Eating breakfast can mean that you actually eat something, have a cup of tea or coffee, or make a smoothie.
Just make sure that you are eating or drinking something after you wake up so that you have something in your system before you start moving through your day.
Do something that makes you happy.
This can be something as simple as putting on your favorite song before you leave or having a coffee in your favorite mug. Read a chapter from a book, go get something from Starbucks, or watch an episode of your favorite show.
Doing something that makes you happy before you end your morning routine and start your day puts you in a better mood and will help you transition from morning to day.
The steps in this routine can be changed and modified so that it works for you! I know that some days sleeping in is inevitable and that's okay as long as there is a balance of sleeping in and waking up earlier. I hope this helps you feel more productive!
