10 Thoughts College Kids Have Upon Returning Home For The Summer

Can it be Fall already?

The time we have all been waiting for: SUMMER IS HERE!!!

After months of hard work and too many hours ingesting coffee at the library, it is time to return home for summer break. No more finals, cramming in last minute assignments, or worrying if your sleep deprivation is reaching unhealthy levels. Although these next few months are considerably some of the most anticipated, there is definitely an adjustment period once returning home.

Here are some thoughts I've had since coming home that you probably have too:

1. HOME FRIENDS!!!!

The "I miss you" texts can finally come to a halt because our best friends from home are all ours for the summer. Get ready for hanging out everyday because there is nine months of gossip to catch each other up on.

2. I can sleep in...all day.

I'm ready to make up for lost sleep and hibernate for a week straight. Sleeping in until noon and wondering how I made it up for my 10ams...let alone 7am in high school.

3.How did I fit this much STUFF into my room before?

The amount of boxes I came home with must have tripled since I left in September. Seriously, there is no way everything can fit in here.

4. No more doing my laundry

The days of waiting for a washer...and then a dryer...are over. Yes, I now know how to do laundry. But no, I will not be doing it.

5. I have the strictest parents ever.

Being back under constant watch after nine months of freedom is devastating. "Where are you going?" "Who will be there?" "When will you be home?" The questions literally never end.

6. What is this "free time" and what do I do with it?

Having time to yourself has become such a rarity that you don't know what to do with it. Do I even have any hobbies?

7. I should probably get a job.

Summer is no longer a time for fun and games...it's a race to make as much money in the next four months as possible. Getting a job also answers the constant questions from the adults in your life about what your summer plans are.

8. How did I live here for eighteen years?

"...so are we hanging at my house or your house?" is the "go to" question asked when making plans with friends. Is there really nothing to do here except go out to eat or go to the movies?

9. I miss my school friends

How do I survive without being a maximum of a block away? I have to wear the clothes in my closet now? The separation anxiety is real.

10. When do we go back???

Two weeks in and I am already bored out of my mind. Tailgate season could not come soon enough. Can it be fall already?

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
