13 Things Only Summer Camp Counselors Will Understand

For the past two summers, I have been a summer camp counselor and with summer just around the corner, I like many other college and high school students will be getting ready for another summer as a counselor. Now, there are a lot of things that go on at camp that are can create some memorable moments, or just give you PTSD. Like all the camp songs we sing throughout the course of the summer. So here are 15 things only camp counselors will understand!

1. The songs will be stuck in your head forever

Every time you hear, "I said a boom-chick-a-boom" you get PTSD.

2. By the end of the summer, your wrists will be decorated with tons of bracelets the campers made

3. You have had to clean up bodily fluids/waste before

They never mentioned this in the job description...

4. Getting your kids dressed for the pool is always a challenge

Two hours later...

5. The kids always make you feel old

"How old are you, like 50?"

6. Kids will cry over anything and everything

But it's my turn to go on the swings!!!!!

7. The strong bond between fellow counselors

Because we are all in this together.

8. Everyone has their favorite kid

Although they tell us not to, we all have that one kid we would want to adopt.

9. The tan lines

Gotta love those unavoidable tan lines!

10. The happiness of getting to wear a t-shirt and shorts every day

You can tell by my smile, I love being able to wear shorts and a shirt every day.

11. Bribery can go a long way

I'll give you a camp buck if you stop crying.

12. Being just as...or maybe even more competitive than the kids

13. You wouldn't trade the memories you make with these kids for the world

Being a camp counselor may not be easy. You have to put up with some really bratty kids, you come home every day exhausted, but by the end of the summer, you have a full three months of memories you will never forget.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
