Summer 2016 is here and I bet many of you are having mixed feelings about being home once again from a fun year away at college. Yes, it’s awesome to be back in your own bed, see old friends, and have home cooked meals, but won’t you miss the sleepless nights, living with your best friends, and working under your own set of rules? Of course you will. So when you are bored at points during the course of your four month college cleanse, here are some things you should do to keep your summer fun and memorable.

1. Camping with friends

S'mores, campfires, and serenity. What more could you ask for than a night under the stars with your closest friends?

2. Wake up early to see the sunrise

Sunrises are known to be good for the soul. Each morning, the sunrise represents a new beginning. If yesterday was bad, watch the sunrise and realize you have the opportunity to make the next day even better.

3. Go to a movie by yourself

I have never done this myself, but it is something that I hope to gain the courage to do. People are so afraid to be alone, and overcoming that fear is something that can only enhance your independence.

4. Try a new recipe

Cooking is comfort. Keeping your body healthy and happy is extremely important. A healthier you is one of the best kind of goals you can have for the summer; along with becoming a better cook while you're at it.

5. Kiss someone random/unexpected

Kissing is an act of affection that so many people long for. Why wait for true love to come around when kissing is a possibility everyday. If you are interested in someone, kiss them. You don't know when and if you'll ever see them again. Live in the moment.

6. Read at least 10 books

Books keep your mind working and active during the long break from school. Read a love story and then a thriller. You'll be entertained and your mind will stay busy.

7. Make popsicles

Popsicles are a summer favorite that can make any hot summer day even more enjoyable. They can be healthy too. Make your own with fresh fruit. Your friends will love them.

8. Spend time/ do daytrips with your family

Family is so important, and although during your four months off they'll drive you insane, you will miss them when September rolls around. Make memories that you can tell your own kids about.

9. Take a road trip to somewhere far away

The best way to escape. If you have a car, you can get anywhere. See sights and meet new people. A full tank is a full ticket out of town for a while.

10. Go fishing

Fishing is the best outlet to relax and have fun. In addition, catching a fish for the first time makes a great Instagram post.

11. Dye/ Cut your hair

Summer is the perfect time to change things up with your look. Take these four months to try new styles and find one that gives you the right amount of confidence to head back into the school year with.

12. Have a summer fling

Summer flings are something everyone should experience at some point in their life. Meet someone, no strings attached, and part ways at the end of the summer. Having a time limit on something makes it all the more exciting.

13. Stargazing

Laying outside with tons of blankets and pillows, your favorite ice cream, and your best friends, is the perfect way to end a summer night. The peaceful atmosphere can make you forget about most of your problems.

14. Learn how to surf

New activities and hobbies is always something you should want to do. Let's be real, everyone wants to learn how to surf. Go do it. Gnarly?

15. Learn how to be happy :)

Summer is a detox; no more cramming, no more finals, no more stress. Use this time to find yourself, to enjoy yourself, and to love yourself while doing it. Happy summer everyone!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
