Lately in the United States, there have been quite a few stories of suicide. Suicide has been an issue for as long as we can remember. Me, personally I believe that it has been increasing through the years. It has been hitting kids that are only in Elementary School. The fact that it has been children who haven’t experienced life yet just blows my mind. How could this have happened and why didn’t anyone do anything about it? Bullying has become bigger than ever since the internet has been founded and cyberbullying is a larger type of bullying.

The internet can be an evil thing if used in the wrong way. There are many things for the younger generation to see and they think it is funny, or cool when really it could hurt someone. Suicide jokes have also become bigger in the 21^st century.

People saying stuff such as “omg I want to die,” or “I’m going to kill myself” have been commonly used as a figure of speech.

The only thing is that when someone says it now, you can’t tell if they are kidding or of they are being serious. People will say it isn’t that big of a deal. Well, the reality is, it is a big deal. There are people in the world that don’t want to be on earth anymore and we have made it something funny.

We need to take in consideration that someone could want to end their life and one little thing such as making fun of suicide could possibly set it off. Another issue is making fun of someone going through suicidal thoughts. There have been people who have hurt themselves and are called “Attention Seekers.”

Do you not realize that the person is going through something big and no one is doing anything to help them? There are many signs to catch when someone is going through suicidal thoughts and most of the time, no one does anything to help them. This is something that needs to change.

As we live and grow, we need to take bullying more seriously. We need to look for signs that someone is wanting to end their life and we need to help as best as we can but also remember not to rub it in their face. We need to be an ear for the ones going through it and if it happens, we need to act as soon as possible. The jokes that are being made, need to come to a stop. We need to watch what we say in public. You do not know how much you say could impact someone’s life. We need to take suicide seriously and do something to change it.
