A nine-year research project published in the academic journal Nature Communications, conducted by VIB, Katholieke Leuven University and Vrije University in Belgium have made an alarming discovery concerning sugar and its effects on people with cancer.

The two universities and health center mentioned before have in simple terms, clarified the "Walburg Effect" a natural reaction in which cancer cells rapidly break down sugars stimulating tumor growth. It is clear to note that the researchers were not able to determine if sugar causes cancer but were able to prove beyond doubt that it worsens cancer's current states in humans.

This is not only a scientific discovery but proof that healthier diets in some regions, like America, are increasingly important. As of 2017 around 37% of adults in America are obese, and have diets that consist of lots of sugar. One of the most popular ingredients in foods today is high fructose corn syrup. While being obese is an issue for society itself it is more an issue for every single American. If they were to develop any kind of cancer that cause an onset of tumors they would most likely not survive. In addition, if they were to do so most would find themselves massively in debt.

"Newly approved cancer drugs cost an average of $10,000 per month, with some therapies topping $30,000 per month, according to ASCO, which discussed the costs of cancer care at a recent meeting. Just a decade ago, the average cost per month of new drugs was about $4,500"

Most people would not be able to afford the average cost of cancer treatment even if they were charged at the price of a decade ago, in reality, these individuals could pay as much as 10,000$ dollars a month just for the drugs, not including another 30,000$ to for a full treatment. As nice as "Medicare for all sounds" right now, that is not a realistic option considering this country's leadership. Who are far more happy gutting all current health care provided or supplemented by the government.

If you know anyone who is currently undergoing cancer treatments or anyone who has already beaten cancer tell them the facts. It might be sad for them to have to avoid the sweetest treats in life but it is not worth dying for. While a little here and there might not make a difference the average American is not used to consuming that little amount of sugar. Make sure to read ingredients and avoid any sort of sugar, which can also be hidden as glucose, fructose, and dextrose. It will save your life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
