My Passion For Succulents Proved That I Can Succeed

Who knew that my new found passion for succulents could remind me of life's little triumphs?

Let me start with a little bit of a background for you. In the summer of 2017 my mom and her friends were really into fairy gardens. Well I decided to make a fairy garden myself, but it didn't turn out so well. My gorgeous succulents ended up dying within a month and it was somewhat saddening.

Well fast forward to this past summer, 2018, and I was determined to learn more about succulents and get them to grow. I started out with two cute succulents and read about how to care for them. I even got advice from someone at work on how to take care of them. Well sure enough, I kept them alive all summer and they've grown so much.

Now you might be thinking “you kept a low maintenance plant alive, so what?" But in reality, it means so much more to me. Keeping these succulents alive has shown me that I can take care of something living besides myself.

For someone who has never been a plant person, taking care of these two little succulents has showed me that I can learn about them and take care of them. As silly as it sounds, watching these succulents grow brings such a joy and feeling of “I'm doing it, I'm being successful." Not to mention, the fact that one of them is flowering is extremely exciting. It means that not only did I take care of my succulents, but I took great care of them.

Owning plants may not be as exciting as a puppy or kitten, but I promise that successfully growing one will bring you great joy. It's those little joys and triumphs that make life so great. My succulents have reminded me about how exciting those little successes in life are.

I encourage everyone to try new things, even if it as simple as owning a plant. Learn to enjoy all that life has to offer and take joy in life's littlest moments. My succulents showed me that I can in fact be successful at something I never thought I could succeed at. You, too, can be successful at things you once thought you never could be.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
