To The Student Who Never Does The Reading: Stop Talking In Class

Seriously, you are annoying.

Dear student who never does the reading but always feels the desire to talk during class,

PLEASE STOP!

Seriously just stop. You have to be the most annoying student in the class.

I know you think that the more you talk in class the more the professor will like you, but that is not the case. We can all tell you didn't do the reading. I know you think you can bs your way through the conversation and no one will be any the wiser, but trust me we all know what you're doing. You aren't adding to the conversation, In fact, you are taking away from it. Because of you and your completely incorrect answer we have had to take time out of class to re-explain the concept that the reading perfectly illustrated.

Sure we all have days where we don't have time to do the reading before class, but most of us choose to sit and learn that day instead of talk and assume they know everything. You might just want to take a page out of our book you might just learn something that way.

What I want to know is why you feel so compelled to talk during class when you haven't done the reading? But what I really want to know is what makes you think that without doing the reading you are smarter than the rest of the class who actually did the work?

You are always the first one to talk during group work or class discussions, but you literally never do the reading. Why don't you ever wait to see what someone else can contribute? I know that you have cut me off many a time just because you have this need to spew inane theories. Whenever you do that I then have to take five minutes out of our group work time to explain why you are wrong. Of course, at first you like to dismiss me and try and back up your idea, but like you always do you eventually realize I'm right when I pull out the reading and read to you from it.

What makes it worse is that you will literally sit down when we get into groups and say that you haven't done the reading, but that doesn't stop you from trying to take the lead in the conversation. That literally makes NO sense. Is it really that hard to let someone else be in charge for once? If you really want to lead the conversation so bad then maybe you should do the reading for once.

And why in the world do you never take notes during class? It's like you think that you are above taking notes which makes no sense at all. I will literally take notes even if I am writing the same exact thing I wrote down when I did the reading. One would think that you, someone who didn't do the reading, would need the notes more than I do.

Oh and next time before you complain about how low your grade in this class is and how unfair of the professor it was to give you that grade, you may just want to do the reading. Just a thought.

Sincerely,

The student who is always correcting you during class.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
