The Struggles Of Wearing Lipstick

Put on lipstick, conquer the world.

A few things make me feel like I can conquer the world, like I can do absolutely anything. One of those things is lipstick. It truly is amazing how just a little bit of color smeared on my face can make me feel so confident. However, anyone who has ever worn lipstick will tell you that after a while, it gets annoying. As amazing as it can make you look and feel, it does have its negatives.

1. You leave a mark on everything.

It never fails that you will leave some amount of your lipstick on whatever you touch: cups, utensils, food, clothes, etc. The worst is getting it on your teeth; you can't see it, and you can only fix it if a friend is nice enough to tell you or you have a mirror. Despite your best efforts, you will be leaving a trail of color everywhere all day. At least everyone will know what's yours!

2. Reapplying.

After you eat, after you drink, and maybe even after doing nothing at all but wearing it, you'll need to reapply it throughout the day or night so you can continue to look fierce. This can be a chore, especially if you don't have a mirror handy. Do what you have to; having that dreaded ring of color around your lips looks horrible, and you know it.

3. Lips get dried out.

Try whatever you want, but I have yet to find a lipstick that doesn't dry my lips out and make them feel disgusting by the end of the night. Nothing about dry lips is fun or attractive. How can you feel on top of your game and like you can conquer the world if you are worried about your lips drying out and not looking as good as before?

4. The cost.

Unfortunately, lipstick is expensive. Sometimes you can buy a cheaper version of something, but most times it is never as good as the more expensive version. If you spend $5 on a tube of lipstick, it probably won't be fantastic. On rare occasions, you may get lucky and find a cheaper alternative to a name brand. However, most of the time, a good lipstick will run you $15 or more.

5. You must be precise.

Whether you use lip liner or just a very steady hand and really good lipstick, you need to be careful putting on lipstick. Lip liner helps to have a better idea of what you're doing, but it is still no easy feat. If you don't get it exactly right, you could go from looking fierce and hot to looking like the Joker. You'd be better off wearing no lipstick at that point.

Personally, I love wearing lipstick. I would even go as far as to say that I am obsessed with it, however, it still comes with its challenges. Do I let these small things stop me from rocking bright red or deep crimson lipstick? Absolutely not! Now, go out and follow this advice that my phone case reminds me of every day: "Put on lipstick, conquer the world."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
