We have all seen that episode of SpongeBob about procrastination. We have all been there, let's just admit it. It is hard to get motivated when you have other things on your mind. Waiting until the last minute to write, or even study for a test, is no use and no good will come out of the situation.
OK, right about now, you are probably thinking that some people are pros at it. Yes, I am jealous of those people, too. Yes, the ones who can get through life by procrastinating all the time and get the A’s on the tests or papers; meanwhile, here you are struggling along for who knows how many weeks trying to make the paper sound amazing or trying to get the A on the hardest test of the year.
This article is about some of the things that you should probably not do on submission day. A few key points maybe:
1. Don’t work a twelve-hour shift the night before
2. Don’t stay up for 24 plus hours and think its OK to be fully functional
3. Don't train for a 10k on a very gorgeous spring day
4. Don't through your Facebook feed 10 or more times looking for creative thoughts
5. Don't play with your roommate’s dog
6. Don't watch your roommate and her dad destroy her deck
7. Don't worry about getting a suntan
8. Don't look up the weather to see what it's supposed to be like during the week
The list could go on and on.
The moral of every story: if you have free time, start ahead of time, and ask for help when the going gets tough. We have all been there when we are writing something and we get writer's block — it happens to the best of us.
I mean, can you imagine how many times JK Rowling must have gotten writer's block while writing the Harry Potter series?! It kind of makes my head hurt thinking about it.
Procrastination does happen, I will admit and say that it does, but don’t let it happen more times than it should.
