Have you ever found yourself thinking about your life decisions and asking yourself, "why?" Well, that three letter word pretty much sums up the life of a New York Mets fan.
When you're a Mets fan there are endless why questions, such as "why would I do this to myself?" or "why do I put myself through this misery?" and, more often than not, "why am I not a Yankees fan?" For years and years, these lovable losers from Queens have been just that: losers. But the Mets do not just lose — they turn losing into a form of art. They create new ways to lose in ways you don't believe are even possible, and it's actually impressive. Year in and year out they have found ways to turn good to bad and bad to worse. I guess it is safe to say that being a diehard Mets fan is not as easy task — in fact, it's actually quite stressful.
Yes, most people will say it is just a game, but for some people like myself, the Mets are not just any other baseball team. When the Mets play and win, it can turn a terrible day into a great day. Your team winning a big game can allow you to forget about the bad and make everything seem good again. It's the pride you have of being a fan that is truly thrilling. However, the Mets, well, they will break your heart more times than they will make you happy, and that is a fact. When the Mets do win, it doesn't last very long as these past two seasons were, in fact, the only time the Mets made the playoffs in back to back years in team history. Amazin', right?
When the Mets win, it's like getting that toy you always wanted but could never find, then you finally find it, buy it, and then it breaks. With that being said, many fans thought 2017 would be the year for the Mets--great pitching, great lineup, great bullpen--but this year, just like many others, by the middle of June us fans are already prepping for football season (unless you're a Jets fan, of course), and we find ourselves asking "why... just why?"
But, no matter how much misery us Mets fans go through, at the end of the day, we will always bleed orange and blue.
