Christmas Shopping May Not Be Worth The Stress

To buy or not to buy? That is the question.

It's that time of the year again: Christmas. And with that comes Christmas shopping. Forget awkward family conversations, grinches and blistering cold weather, shopping for Christmas gifts is the absolute worst part of Christmas. Don't get me wrong I don't mind buying gifts for people, it's just the stress that comes along with it that drives me crazy.

First off, there is the stress of who to buy for. Every year I go through the same internal debate of whether or not I should buy a present for some of my friends. You don't want to face the awkwardness that ensues if you buy a gift and the other person doesn't get you one. Not only do you feel awkward but you are a bit upset, so to avoid the emotional trauma I'd much rather not buy a gift. BUT you don't want to not buy a gift and the other person does because now you just feel like a bad friend.

Then once you decide you are going to get your friend a gift you have to figure out how much money to spend on them. You don't want to seem cheap and only spend $10 if your friend spends $20, but you also don't want to spend a ton of money if your friend just regifts you something. Of course, you don't want to ask your friend how much they are planning on spending, so you just guess and hope you guessed correctly. This alone is enough to give you a headache.

After the whole how much do I spend debate you actually have to go and find this person a Christmas present. I cannot be the only one who struggles with this. I always try and go to the store with a vague idea of what I'm looking for, but inevitably the very second I walk through the doors I have no idea what I'm looking for. So then I spend 500 hours wandering the aisles of the store looking at every single thing they have to find the perfect gift. Obviously, I decide to buy the very first thing I looked at 4 hours earlier.

Of course, there is always online shopping instead of physically going to the store, but in my experience it is even more of a time drain. I spend hours looking through Amazon and every single store's website to try and find the perfect gift. Then once I pick it out I have to figure out shipping. How long will it take? How much does shipping cost? Is it worth it? Can I get this cheaper on another website? The questions go on and on.

Needless to say Christmas gift shopping is the most stressful time of the most wonderful time of the year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
