Strength Of A Generation

Using our society's substantial attention and influential power on us as an advantage to change the world

Unfortunately, we’ve all become suppressed to the idea that this generation has failed and we’ve pretty much corrupted the universe with our slangs, ideas of romance, negligence, and the material things we value over what is important.

Pessimistic viewpoint aside, the world inadvertently placing so much focus into how it's members choose to live subsequently gives us dominance over our own destiny, how we choose to individually influence the world.

We are the generation of social media. Social media is consuming and has only gotten more popular throughout the last two decades. We have the power to speak out and get a rise from a crowd in matter of minutes with pictures, tweets, debates, etc.

Our peers are right behind us, just waiting to see something controversial or relatable. We need to start using this as our in to change the world. It sounds so impractical, but when you really think about it, there are so many instances when social media has proved to be powerful: Promposals have been uploaded with hundreds of views. Tweets have been retweeted thousands of times just to catch the attention of a famous figure. We can and should be using this to our advantage.

However, this issue goes beyond social media. The idea is the overall sense that we are a community of individuals who grew up with so much evolving around us. We’ve been fighting segregation, gender inequality, homophobia, and simple basic human rights for centuries. Only recently have people begun speaking out against these injustices.

We have reached an age where we are trying to find ourselves and the initial step to building up who you are is developing opinions on any particular topics, which is extremely easy to do today considering there is so much to question, so much uncertainty, and so much bias.

We were born into such a stubborn society, one which actually believed the youth does not understand as much, simply because they are the youth.

We were born into a society that was too afraid to talk about sensitive topics such as racism and suicide because it made them “uncomfortable”. We face adversity and diversity every day and we define the way that although a high IQ is great, having a common sense is not taught and actually that much more respectable.

We need to be open to having conversations that make us uncomfortable for the benefit of EVERYONE. We are the voice of this society and we are the generation of strength that can change the world if we allow ourselves to use the attention and influence we have on our community and media to get our voices out there.

We need to challenge those in charge because they are [disappointingly] not people of reason who understand how to better an economy in the best interest of the people, nor do they treat us all equally.

Want to stir up a crowd and make a difference? Try tweeting about something that really matters and help prove that this generation has so much more to offer than just entertainment.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
