If you have not seen the new season of Stranger Things yet, what are you doing? I understand that people are busy and they do not have the time to watch shows that will simply make their lives a whole lot better, but everyone needs to make time for Stranger Things (this article will contain spoilers for season two for those of you who have not seen it yet).
When the new season first came out, I was a little nervous and I will tell you why. The first season of Stranger Things was epic. Every episode was magnificent and the plot of the show was simply spectacular. Watching these kid actors play these roles so well and watching Eleven simply wreak havoc in order to protect her friends was impressive and exhilarating, so I was not sure how the Duffer brothers (the show creators) were going to top this season. Also, even though Will was in season one of the show (I hope that you have seen Stranger Things if you are reading this), I was never able to really see actor Noah Schnapp act alongside his fellow co-stars, which made me a little nervous about their onscreen chemistry in season two. Thankfully, Noah Schnapp is a phenomenal actor just like his co-stars, so this is not an issue.
One thing that I was really looking forward to in season two was learning more about Eleven, who is played by Millie Bobby Brown. As you know, at the end of season one, it looks as if Eleven died protecting Mike and his friends from the Demogorgon, but at the very end of the season, we see Police Chief Hopper put Eleven’s favorite food in a container outside in the wilderness, as if he was leaving that food there because she was still alive. This provided a sense of relief for me when I saw this because Millie Bobby Brown is one of the most talented actors I have seen in a long time. What she brought to the show could not be replaced, so I was extremely happy to find out that Eleven was in fact alive.
I am also happy with the fact that in season 2 we learn more about Eleven’s backstory which has really been a mystery up to this point. Almost every question about Eleven is answered in season two, and there are many surprises that happen along the way. Eleven finally meets her real mom, she finds another girl that has powers similar to her own, and we also get to watch Eleven kick some serious Demogorgon butt during the season which is always nice to see. Sadly, however, Mike believes that Eleven is dead for most of the season, until episode eight, when he finally sees her again, but watching their reunion was definitely worth the wait.
The new season also introduces some new characters to the show, one of them being Sean Astin (Sam from TheLord of the Rings) and actors Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery. Each of these new characters definitely adds a new dynamic to the show, and I was incredibly impressed by all of the new additions. When they are first introduced, you might be a little skeptical as to why they are in the show, but trust me, they make the show even better. Sean Astin plays Bob in the show, who is Joyce's boyfriend, and even though he seems pretty goofy, he plays a vital role in saving a lot of people in season 2. I really enjoyed his character and I was very upset when he got killed (Sean Astin normally never dies). Dacre Montgomery plays Billy Hargrove who is essentially the human antagonist of the show (since the real villains are the creatures from the upside down). He and his step-sister Max (played by Sadie Sink) are new to town and Dustin and Lucas are immediately attracted to Max. It's fun watching these two fight over her throughout the season, and honestly, I was not expecting Lucas to win her affections. That was definitely a nice surprise, and I am happy that the Duffer brothers put this in the story.
One thing about the new season that I thought was amazing was the plot of the show. I knew that the new season would deal with Will and how he was doing now that he was back in the real world, but I had no idea that Will would be possessed by a creature from the upside down. That was a huge shocker and watching Noah Schnapp play a crazy monster as well as a normal kid, was astounding. It was truly must-see television.
Overall, season two was amazing to watch, and I was not disappointed. Honestly, I might like season two a little more than season one, but I am not sure that I am ready to make that declaration because when Eleven flipped the car in season one, I was screaming with excitement. However, after I watch both seasons again, I will know which season I like better.
Now sadly, I am stuck waiting for season three to come out. And once again, I am nervous about whether or not the Duffer brothers will be able to top season two, but I am very optimistic that season three will be even better.
