A Story Of A Piglet In A Factory Farm

Factory farm is a horrible place for any animals.

My name is Piggy, a 12- day female pig. I am one of the thousands of members of a pig family living with other friends such as chickens or turkeys in a place called Factory Farming in U.S.

From the first days of my life, I used to think a factory farm was simply a big house. However, after hearing some explanations and stories from my elder generations, I think a factory farm is as a gloomy abyss where we are confined and raised in a short-term with cruel methods for humans’ economic purposes. Even though I know that my future will not be bright, I wish factory farming will not continue being processed in one day because of its inhumanity, unhealthy effects, and the environment’s destruction.

I think factory farming should be prohibited because of its inhuman methods which people use to raise us. Thousands of us have been raised in a small dirty area covered with rusty fences. Our places’ conditions are even more horrendous than humans’ slums. We live in squalor and disease within hard, wet floor and scorching hot atmosphere.

My mother said that our lives, especially breeding sows’ like hers, will not be happy at the end. My mom narrated that she was moved to a “farrowing crate” which is a small metal cage in which pregnant sows are imprisoned for weeks on end, usually from a week before giving birth until their piglets are weaned three to four weeks later.

For me, it was even more awful because she usually stood with a toll on her feet, which led to her excessive foot injuries, damage to joints, and even lameness. But she was never cured. Sometimes we dream to escape this awful place to enjoy fresh air, beautiful sunshine in the daytime or stars twinkling in the sky at night; unfortunately, we cannot. We know that our destinies are always slaughtered after suffering inhuman methods with hopeless bloods and tears, and we never can run away from that sad fate.

It is funny that humans of factory farms only care about their profits and do not care about negative effects they will have when raising us with unhealthy methods. I used to be told that owners of some factory farms extensively use antibiotics to reduce the extreme amount waste from animals. For instance, thousands of chickens who are our friends are injected with growth hormones inside their wings because factory farmers want to quickly increase the quantity of products. We do not understand why people can do that crazy thing because they will also have healthy problems such as cancer.

By using this “magical” agent without carefully thinking, people not only kill us but they also accidentally bring themselves to the hell. Even though I hate humans because of their stupid behaviors and their cruelty, I still want someone to stop operations of the factory farming soon.

My neighbors usually think pigs, especially little pigs, are stupid. They think I will not know anything. Even though I am a piglet, I have been educated about the negative effects of factory farming for the environment resulting from factory farms’ operations. Both humans and animals need to answer the call of nature. People need to go to restrooms every day, and so do we. However, poor sanitation of factory farms can destroy environment. Human will receive million tons of manure discarded from us per day in this country; therefore, if they do not have a modern waste system, they will suffer disgusting smells and risks of diseases such as H5N1 or H1N1.

Even though I am a pig, I also cannot suffer those. Its smell is like stink grass, which may only attract lots of voracious flies buzzing around. If there is a light wind blowing across our factory farm, we or maybe humans can lose consciousness. Furthermore, these waste matters with bacterial and poisonous agents can pollute the origin of fresh water, which may cause humans and other species like fish to be in danger. Overall, the “green lungs” of all species in the world will be destroyed.

Nobody can swimmingly choose their own lives that they want. I understand that pigs’ mission is to exist to supply protein for humans and other species to exist, but we have rights to enjoy our short lives in better conditions. Even though my life will not last for a long time, I still think humans should not continue factory farming in this country. Human is intelligent, so I believe that if humans were us, they also could not stand everything that we suffer. Like I said, slaughter is our destiny, but at least people should give us better days with freedom and good provision of care before killing us.

Anyway, if humans do not stop factory farming from right now, I think many bad results will happen in the future.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
