"I just can't eat meat."
"I don't know how you do it."
"The thought of how those animals are treated makes me sick."
These are just three of the many things that vegans have said to me in the past week alone. I've been pushed to my limit. I really don't care that you're a vegan. If that's what floats your boat, that's awesome. It, unfortunately, does not float mine. I am a meat-loving omnivore, who just wants to eat my 30 chicken nuggets and drink a gallon of milk without being judged for it.
I understand that for some people vegetarianism is great. You feel great, you have more energy, etc. etc.
Here is the thing. I feel great. I have energy. I love hamburgers.
As for how those animals are treated, I can personally testify that 99.9% of ranchers and farmers don't treat their animals poorly. My dad treats his cattle better than most people treat their dogs. I'm pretty sure those cows suffer horribly as he makes sure they're safe, healthy and sneaks them treats just because he likes to pet them. Some animals are treated poorly, but most aren't.
Also, please don't tell me if I have to eat meat I should make it antibiotic free. I'm sure animals hate getting antibiotic shots, because who doesn't want to contract some curable illness and die a slow painful death. If you want to eat antibiotic-free meat that's just as fine as you being a vegan, but I'd rather not contract E-coli. Thanks for the tip, though.
If I don't judge you for not eating meat, please don't judge me for eating it. Stop telling me that my habits make you sick. I know my table manners are lacking but you don't have to watch me eat. I order my steaks medium rare, that's my choice. If you want to order a veggie platter that's yours. Animal cruelty bothers me too, but I don't think boycotting animal products is really going to fix that. If you want to fix problems you have to do more that just stop eating, or using certain products.
Now I'm not the kind of meat-eater to ask you if you miss eating meat. I won't ask you to try a piece of my steak. I'm not judging your choice. If you want to live without eating wings again that's your deal. I personally want to eat barbecue ribs and drink milkshakes every day. I don't understand your choice and you don't understand mine. Everyone chooses what is best for them. Now stop omnivore shaming me and let me eat my supreme meat-lovers pizza in peace.
