I am one of those people who believe in a magical sky daddy.
Honestly, that’s a bit of a mouthful so let’s find something that’s a bit shorter and to the point. I am: delusional? An idiot? Brainwashed? Uneducated?
You let me know what you prefer best.
I call myself a Christian.
My sky daddy calls me daughter.
Jesus calls me friend.
People cry for less “God-talk” for the sake of their comfortability. I am not here to make you comfortable. People cry for evidence of God so they can have an easy got-em moment against me. My entire relationship with Jesus is based on Faith, if I required evidence to believe then I have no faith. People have pity for me, saying I just need to open my eyes and realize I’m being brainwashed. I don’t need your pity, I need you to listen to what I’m about to say.
I am not here to CONVERT you, I am not here to PREACH to you, I am not here to CONDEMN any one’s beliefs or actions. I am here to tell you that you do not get a pass for hating on my faith because it’s the acceptable thing to do today. You don’t get to insult my intelligence because my beliefs don’t match up with yours. You don’t hold the monopoly on what the meaning of life is or the way the world works. Neither do I.
I have often heard people say, “well I just want to help people realize how dumb they are being for believing in a God.” Life tip: don’t bother. I know you have the purest of intentions but, how about you save the name calling for someone else. Maybe someone who is going to change their beliefs (not limited to faith) after you call them an idiot. I’m sure you’ll find someone.
“Hey you! Yeah you! You are such an under evolved dumbass.”
“You know, you make a good point. Tell me more.”
Said no one ever.
I am all for conversations. Challenge me- I want to hear about your side of things. In fact, often times challenging your beliefs can make them stronger. But, stop acting like insulting my faith (or anyone’s faith) is anything other than disrespectful. And hey, maybe you don’t care about being respectful, in which case I have nothing more to say to you. Carry on, because at the end of the day you have the free will to do what you want. But, for those of us who care about the respect given and received between two people, I’m here to say enough.
Now, I want to make it completely clear that I am not discounting anyone’s negative experiences with a certain faith. Those are legitimate, and should not go unaddressed. But, here is my challenge for YOU. Is it possible it’s not the faith that is completely awful, but the person? When you walk into the world, you represent all you claim to belief.
If I claim to be a Christian and then spew hatred everyday to people I meet, I am MISREPRESENTING my faith. I am giving people the idea that the way that I personally choose to conduct myself represents what my faith teaches. If you claim to be a vegan and then go around lighting hot-dog stands on fire (extreme example, I know) then you are misrepresenting what veganism is all about. That is a problem within yourself, not the belief.
It is so important to take everything, including people, on an individual basis. If you are in a room with two Christians and one tells you that you are going to hell and the other one is friendly and conversational, what does that mean? Christianity is something that they both claim and yet, their behaviors differ. Would I say the one who says you are going to hell is representative of all Christians? No, because that would be incorrect. This just happens to be a mean spirited person who claims Christianity in words, and fails to claim it through actions. We see this all the time with Muslims, Feminism, Conservatives, and Liberals. We must look at the basic components of what these belief systems stand for, and then on an individual basis see how much people follow through with their behavior.
You aren’t “cool” for putting me down because of my faith. You aren’t “edgy” because you are being an ass. In fact when you talk, what are you representing? What should I infer about your beliefs based on your words and actions?
Anyways, I'm off to read my book of fairytales called the Bible.
