XXXTentacion is one of biggest rising artists currently taking over the charts. His debut album "17" took over the Billboard 200 charts at number 2 earlier this month. However, last fall XXXTentacion was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and witness-tampering. Friday, Pitchfork released the 142-page police report containing all of the graphic details of the victim's testimony.
But what is almost just as disturbing as the details of this pattern of abuse is the fact the XXXTentacion is still currently trending on the Top 40 list. In fact, fans are so dedicated to XXXTentacion that a riot broke out outside of Club Orpheum in Ybor City after police shut down one of his free concerts due to the high volume of attendees. Fans then continued to chase XXXTentacion onto the highway after he left the venue.
While domestic violence and abuse are almost never tolerated in pop culture, the problem with rappers like XXXTentacion and Kodak Black, who was on trial for a rape case, is their undying support from their fans who are able to over look such horrendous acts. People like XXXTentacion, Kodak Black, Chris Brown, and many others are human trash cans and their supporters are just as big of a problem as they are.
This cycle of rape and abuse will not stop unless society stops praising those who commit them. As long as XXXTentacion is on the Billboard list, boys will learn that it is okay to abuse people and women will learn that they have to accept it.
