I see this all the time, whether it's actually at the gym or online: snide comments about people wearing makeup while working out. Generally, they all follow the same tired, overused script: Why wear make up at the gym? They're just trying to get attention. It's going to sweat off. The gym isn't a place to hook up and look hot, it's a place to work.
Cue the eye rolling.
This is the most basic way to think of those who decide to wear makeup when at the gym or working out. There are a million more reasons why someone might choose to put on or keep on cosmetics other than "trying to hook up and look hot," and judging them for it just makes for unnecessary drama.
So often, people have to squeeze in time to workout between school, work, and other obligations. There's only so much time in the day, not everyone has the time to spare to wash off their foundation/bronzer/blush/whatever before rushing to get in a workout. Wearing makeup to the gym might be the most convenient way for someone to get that workout in.
It's also a matter of confidence. Sometimes it is hard to put yourself out there, especially at the gym when it's so easy to compare yourself to others. If someone wants to go to the gym but needs that extra bit of confidence that makeup gives them in order to feel comfortable, then they should be able to do it without people judging and shaming them for it. I know I sometimes need the extra bit of confidence that makeup can give me when I'm at the gym; what's so wrong with that?
The bottom line is, those who judge and shame people who wear makeup at the gym are out of line. It doesn't matter whether someone whats to wear makeup for convenience, confidence, or any other reason. Their blush and contour isn't hurting anyone. We should be supporting people, especially when it's support for something that makes them feel better about themselves.
If you're at the gym and judging people for what they're wearing or how they look, take a second to step back and look at yourself. You're at the gym for your own reasons, just like everyone else. Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing, stay in your lane, and focus on yourself and your goals.
