At the beginning of every new year, the gyms begin to fill up. January 1st
However, it doesn’t always last. Some people stick to their New Year’s resolution, but some people don’t. It’s common for the large crowds at the gym to begin dissipating come February and March. The dedication starts to slip away and less people think that going to the gym is as important as it was. 80% of the New Year's resolutions crowd drops off by the second week of February. Meaning only 20% remain, and the rate of sign-ups tapers off by February.
Some people don’t want to keep putting the time and work in. Some people don’t want to keep going if they aren’t seeing instant progress. People like instant gratification and that is something the gym can’t always give you. You won’t always see an immediate benefit.
I’m not saying that just because it’s normal to stop going to the gym or lessen your goal that that’s what you should do. If you want to make your fitness and health better than by all means do it. Try your best and keep it up as much as possible.
But the people that judge people for even trying to go to the gym at all, that’s what needs to stop.
Who cares if New Year’s inspired people to get healthy and go to the gym?!
Who cares if the gym gets packed for a month or two? It shouldn’t affect you if other people are going to the gym. Other people’s improvement of themselves should not affect your improvement of yourself.
If the crowds are what bother you, go at slower times of the day. The busiest times of the day, and therefore the worst times to hit the gym, are mid-mornings (between 8 and 11 AM) and early evenings (4 to 7 PM). Almost any time of day is less busy than these prime times.
Use less popular machines to avoid waiting in lines like using the stair climber instead of the treadmill. It helps to vary your workout anyway. Maybe even talk and meet someone new at the gym and workout with them so the crowd doesn’t seem as bad.
Either way you do it, just stop judging all the people rushing into your favorite gym this January. You don’t think that they’re serious anyway, so they will probably be gone before the months end anyway. And if they’re not then good for them for sticking to their fitness goals. Focus on your own and help encourage others to keep theirs instead of judging others for trying to make an improvement to their health.
