I don’t know if what I’m going to talk about is something that has been of controversy for a long time, or if it’s something that has becoming a big deal in recent years. To my knowledge, it seems that people have been getting very angry over people saying “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like this is something people, especially young people, have been getting angry about in recent years.
Now, in my opinion, I don’t know why people get so angry about people who say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.” What do people get so offended about “Happy Holidays” for?
I think what people are failing to remember is that not everyone celebrates Christmas.
There's Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and many more. To those people who don’t celebrate Christmas why is it not fair to say “Happy Hanukkah” or “Happy Kwanzaa”? Even with those sayings and those holidays, I think it is just fair that people say “happy holidays” for the sake of people who don’t celebrate Christmas. Those holidays don’t get as much attention as Christmas does and out of respect for the people who celebrate them people should say “Happy Holidays.”
Also, how hard is it to say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas?”
I think another thing people forget with the phrase “Happy Holidays” is that this saying includes all the holidays, this covers New Years. I think people sometimes forget that their beliefs are not the only ones other people celebrate. Why be inconsiderate of other people's beliefs? I’m sure people who don’t celebrate Christmas will still say “Merry Christmas” because they are considerate of other people’s beliefs. I think those people deserve the same respect. I think in general people should be more considerate of other people’s beliefs and celebrate the differences between each other.
There’s no need to get angry that people celebrate different holidays than you.
