As summer comes into full swing, Instagram and other social media blows up with beach and pool pictures. I mean we all know the golden rule: if you didn't take a picture did you really do it? Sure, getting a gram at the beach in your new bikini is the ultimate self confidence booster, but if being in a sorority has taught me something it's that you can edit anything. And I mean ANYTHING. There are countless apps that can slim you, tan you and even put makeup on you.
The biggest trend I see on social media are girls utilizing the slimming feature. It’s actually kind of amazing how much you can alter your body. You can tuck in your stomach, give yourself a thigh gap and one time my friend even lifted her boobs to make them look perkier. I’m all for positive body image but isn’t this kind of the opposite? Sure Becky, you look hot AF on that picture you posted directly at 9:28pm because you know that’s when you get the most likes, but you also look completely different on screen than in person.
I blame our generation for it being okay to “fix” yourself so much but to a point we kind of do it to ourselves. Giving yourself a model-sized waist is just surrendering to the pressure of being that size in the first place.
So this summer this is my tip to all my fellow ladies: DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO THESE POSTS. Most of them are what we would call ~fake news~ and if you’re like me you’d rather take five hot dogs to the face than worry about a beach bod anyways.
Finally, if Kendrick wants the Photoshop to stop then damn it I do too!!!
