First and foremost, I applaud any college student that is undergoing a liberal arts education. For whatever reason, people of all ages like to disparage against majors such as, music, literature, art, political science, and english.
The most common asked question is, "Will you ever be able to find a job after graduation?". The answer is YES. Odds are that, the people asking that probably didn't go to college and should have no business even asking that question. There seems to be another suggestion that, students in these majors don't put in as much time or effort into their studies because they are taking easier types of classes. If anything, these kinds of majors have to put in way more time and effort than the basic math and business degrees. Let's put this into perspective.
As a music performance major, you have your basic general education classes and your music classes. You have extra recitals you have to preform in or attend for credit. If you're a music performance major then you're most likely wanting to become a better musician, so you have to take some time in for practicing for your own good. Not to mention, other extracurriculars, eating, and sleeping.
As a studio art major, you could have a couple different projects due all in the same week. Perhaps a painting, a clay sculpture, and a paper on the history of the use of cameras and computers within the art context. Procrastination is definitely not something that can be easily handled when dealing with art projects. An above average painting cannot be done in one night and that's why time management is consequential. You also cannot just throw something together. Your art has to look professional and something that would make you proud to show off.
Any form of secondary education is of course going to better your chances of attaining your dream job. Although jobs in the liberal arts field can be more challenging to come by, they are still important and should be valued just as much as a job in the business or medical field. I love how liberal arts majors are the kinds that make dreams happen. Musicians and artists can further their passion of the arts into developing and long-lasting careers. Writers and future authors of critically acclaimed novels, put their creative minds to paper and show how writing is still significant in a new generation of technological advances.
I think it's safe to say that any college major can be challenging, but in different ways. I won't ever understand why liberal art majors have such a bad reputation. They are the dreamers in the world doing what they love that live their life filled with hope toward their very rewarding future.
