Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge sucker for signs. For example, if I’ve been thinking about getting a latte and then I get an email saying that Starbucks just released a new latte, I’ll be darned if I don’t go and get a latte. It’s just God’s way of saying my internal thoughts are actually on track, that’s at least what I think.
With that being said, I was having a conversation with one of my co-works who was chit chatting to me about her relationship with her boyfriend. Fast forward to a conversation with one of my friends a few days later and we’re talking about comparison with other people within our tracks of study. Fast forward to a professional development seminar I attended for my minor, Textile and Apparel management, and a quote hit me clear as day that really summed up my last two weeks of school and life.
It said, “Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.” How true is that? How many times have we played the comparison game? How many times have we compared our thoughts, our wishes, and our lives to someone else’s who isn’t in our shoes? Every second you spend comparing is a second you could be using to step your game up.
This message is so relevant to anyone who’s playing the game of life, because hello, it’s hard to walk down the street and not enjoy something that someone else has. I’m constantly admiring others’ things people have, but don’t get yourself down because you still rock. My favorite thing to do when I start to play the comparison game is to find something about myself that I absolutely love and try to play up whatever that must be.
So remember that the next time that you’re struggling with a hard day!
