Stop Asking Me Why I Wear Makeup

Stop Asking Me Why I Wear Makeup

No, I do not wear makeup for the sake of boys. No, I do not wear makeup because I feel ugly without it. In fact, there are days where I prefer nothing more than to leave my skin alone and have no issue leaving my apartment with full confidence.

To the adults who have told me that I wear too much makeup, to the one’s who say “oh sweety, you have so much natural beauty. Why do you need to cover that up?” and especially to the men who have stared me down with clear judgement slapped across their faces, I am here to tell you that your “compliments” and comments are unappreciated.

There are days when I wear no makeup, some when I only wear foundation, and there are other days where I have a full face of makeup on and there is no other reason than the pure love and passion for the artistry that is the practice of makeup. Do I ever wear a full face of makeup and my only plan for the day is to run some errands at CVS? You bet. Do I ever wear no makeup when I have a full schedule and need to be out and about for hours? Absolutely.

Makeup is nothing but a form of self expression, just like the clothes that you put on your back. This is not to say that anyone who does not wear makeup is any less beautiful or expressive than others, and you should never see someone and have the judgement that they would look better if they put on a little foundation and mascara.

To everyone who has ever been told that they wear too much makeup, should wear more makeup, and are questioned endlessly about their style of makeup application, I’m sorry. You are beautiful, both with and without makeup, and you have the right to freedom of expression no matter how you choose to express it.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
