This beautiful Amoya Model 42-B Harp was stolen from Riney Fine Arts Center at Friends University on Monday, and everyone is baffled. The owner Raul Rangel, a music major at the university, said that when he went to go see his harps (which he stores at Riney) one of them (his pedal harp) was missing, along with a bassoon.
This is very unfortunate because over Fall break in 2017 Raul posted on his Snapchat that he was picking up this very same harp from New York City. I was a witness to how much he cared for this harp on a daily basis and it pains me to see it gone.
On Monday morning, when Raul posted the harp was stolen, I was baffled because everyone knows that the string locker room requires a code access that is only given to select students and faculty members.
Many students, members of the community, and even known figures have shared Raul's post. This has created a sort of support system for Raul since he loves his instruments, and the harp is also priced at $11,000-$12,000. It is hard to fathom that anyone with access to that room may have taken it.
Friends University is the type of school where students can leave their $1,000 laptops and $200 headphones unattended, and one of your fellow students will watch it (even if you don't ask them to.) That kind, I-got-your-back type of community is just the community here, but we never know if that code fell into the wrong hands on accident.
Please share Raul's Facebook posts, this article, and any other pictures you may find to help us find Raul Rangel's harp.
