"Fifty Shades of Grey" is back, but this time it's darker! On February 10, 2017, the next installment of the Fifty Shades series comes out. It's called “Fifty Shades Darker” and it once again stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. Now if you know nothing about "Fifty Shades of Grey," it is a book trilogy written by E. L. James. It is classified as a erotic romance and goes into great detail about the relationship between main characters Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" follows Anastasia Steele, a college senior who fills in for her sick roommate to interview young businessman Christian Grey. The story continues down their relationship as both begin to develop feelings for each other and act out Christian’s sexual tendencies. All together, the story is made into a trilogy which maps out their relationship, through its pitfalls and its good times. It is something new for Anastasia Steele as she finds herself attracted to Christian Grey, which to her is strange as she has never really developed feelings for someone before. Christian Grey finds it uncomfortable as well, as he finds himself wanting to have a relationship with Anastasia instead of his usual submissive relationship.
In the film "Fifty Shades of Grey," we last saw Anastasia leaving Christian but as the new trailer suggests, they are back together again. In the trailer, we see Anastasia and Christian developing as a real couple; they are going out together and seem to truly care for each other. When of course, things have to get weird. In one scene, Anastasia sees a woman in their bedroom but when she looks back the woman is gone, like a ghost. It all seems weird, as the woman again appears in Anastasia’s own home trying to explain to her that she is not the first one to try and make Christian into a changed man. It’s pretty freaky and it is funny the way things are changed from the book to the movie. While I’m not 100% certain, it does seem like this lady is a ghost (or if not, a really good magician) and it ruins the story for me a bit. I feel like this is a very realistic and “romantic” movie, whereas bringing ghosts into it kind of turns it off for me.
One thing I do really love is that in this movie, Anastasia displays a newfound sense of confidence which was shown a little in the last installment, when she leaves Christian for his lack of honesty and feelings towards her. In the trailer, we see her telling Christian how she wants the relationship to go and basically tells him that if he doesn’t agree, there is no relationship with her and we know how bad Christian wants Anastasia.
All in all, it looks like it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. It is right in time for Valentine’s Day so I hope you enjoy the movie. Take your boyfriends, girlfriends, friends- don’t take your mom though.
