Stay Motivated By Finding And Accessing Your Passions
Elise Williams

As any college student, I find myself approaching the end of this semester with less and less motivation to do things. Whether it is going to class or simply just doing work and things that I know I need to do. I realize that the reason why I have lost motivation is because I am not passionate about what I am doing. I think that everybody seems to want to do more and be more proactive when they are doing something that they care about, and I have found myself trying to think of different ways I can incorporate things that interest me into the things that do not, that I know I need to do but don't have interest in doing. For example, a long time ago I realized that I am a music lover and I know that I work better when I have music playing in the background. So, in regard to this matter, I figured I should write an article about how one can work to keep themselves motivated in all aspects of their life.

I think that it is important to pin point what you want in life before you can do anything else. For example, I know that the reason why I am attending The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is because I want to get a Bachelor's degree in my field of study, to best set myself up for my future in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. I know that the reason why I am involved in so many organizations on campus is because I want to be able to network with people that potentially have the same sort of ideals or goals as I. I also know that I want to work in a Resort and be a food critic some day, and being a weekly writer for the Odyssey is only a baby step in my path to become one.

As I am continuing to grow up and gain more knowledge through my experiences, I am realizing that I am not going to enjoy everything I do as I set myself up on the path to get to be where I want to be in life. I think that this is something everybody should realize sooner rather than later, and that everybody should allow themselves to take the time to do a little soul searching and figure out what they love to do and are passionate about. I think that this is extremely important because you don't want to put yourself in a situation where you are setting yourself up for a future that you don't want. Or, if you are already working somewhere or doing something that doesn't interest you, this can help you figure out what you should be doing instead.

We all need to be able to look at the bigger picture and bear through what may seem like doesn't matter in the present, to better set up our future. Everybody has their own little nick knacks and things of interest to them, find yours and harness it. It is important for each of us to realize what we want in life so that we can then figure out a plan of action to best set ourselves up for success. Allow yourself to take the steps you need to take to get you to where you want to be, because you deserve to be happy.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
