Staying home.
Living with your parents, commuting to the community college near you.
Working the same job, staying in the same town.
Your friends all moved away. They went off to big universities. You wish they wouldn’t have left you, but you know everyone has a different path.
This is to the kids who stayed home….
While your friends are away, it opens your eyes. They are off in long lecture halls with a ton of people they don’t know. They are joining clubs and rushing sororities. Their lives seem fun and exciting. They are going to tailgates and posting pictures with all their new friends.
But listen, staying home isn't SO bad.
Life in your hometown might not seem like it is changing, but it is.
You are living a different life now. You are in college, not high school anymore. You are becoming an adult. You are working and going to school. You are spending more time with your family.
You can go visit your friends while they are away whenever you want. You can also eat your parent’s homemade cooking and sleep in your own, comfy, familiar bed.
Life at a community college can help you make closer friends than you could ever make at a university. Your classes are smaller and you get to know your classmates. You can have study sessions and go eat lunch together. Also, you get to know your professors. You can email them, and they acknowledge who you are when they respond. You’re not just one of the 200+ students in their 2-4 p.m. lecture hall.
Most of your friends might be gone, but there are some who stayed home just like you. The ones who stayed home, you are now growing closer with. You are all helping each other with the transition.
Staying home isn't SO bad.
You grow closer to your family, especially now that you aren’t always occupied with high school drama and going to every sporting event. You start to realize how much your family can help you with this new stage of your life.
Staying home can seem like the worst mistake that you have ever made some days, but other days you realize that it is the best decision you could have ever made.
Your friends will come home. Long weekends, birthdays, holidays; they will be back. Don’t worry, they won’t forget about you.
Don’t look down on those who chose community college, because well, they are a lot less in debt than those who chose to go off to a large university. Also, they get to eat homemade dinners and cuddle with their pets whenever they please.
Staying home isn’t SO bad, in many ways it is the best option.
