Recently, more and more people have commented on how "busy" I am. What they don't understand is that I enjoy being "busy" and involved in many different things.
"I had to decide what I was going to do, and what I was going to be. I was standing there, waiting for someone to do something , till I realised the person I was waiting for was myself." — Markus Zusak, Underdog
There are pros and cons to being busy. You can be busy for good reasons such as involvement, preventing boredom, taking on new experiences, or increasing productivity. Other people choose to be busy in hopes of avoiding someone or something, can't say no, or overloads themselves.
People often also associate college with being busy, and that if you are not busy, then you are doing something wrong. With college comes jobs, school work, clubs, etc. so there is not a lot of free time. Being in college myself, this is true for me. I work multiple jobs, take classes, and am involved in multiple organizations and clubs.
I enjoy being as involved and busy as I am. I work well under pressure and can multi-task. I am always willing to help a friend in need and do what I can to help out others. I typically don't stop until I reach a breaking point which most people do not understand. I thrive when being busy. I really don't focus on the negative aspects of it like some people do. Nothing about being sleep deprived or not seeing those you love and care about is glorious or ideal. Being involved and busy, however, has helped me meet people and open doors to new opportunities I'd otherwise not have.
I won't regret how busy I am because it keeps me organized and on top of things. I get things done in a timely manner and can be depended on. I love spending time with others and trying new things as well. I get to challenge myself and open doors to new adventures, and life can be really exciting.
"I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody." — Lily Tomlin
While being busy is not ideal for everyone, it works for me. Some people need more downtime to be productive whether just being alone, sleeping more, or chilling out for a bit grabbing a coffee or watching tv. You have to find what type of being busy works for you. Everyone can define it differently. One person's idea of busy can be much different than your own definition of it.
