I chose to attend San Diego State University because I was ready to leave my house, but not ready to leave California. Here are 10 reasons why:

1. California has the fifth largest economy in the world.

Two weeks ago, we had the sixth largest economy. The people in California are hardworking. For this reason, there are job opportunities that you could not find elsewhere.

2. California is home to In-N-Out Burger.

Family owned In-N-Out is the pride of the Pacific coast and American Southwest. In-N-Out started here in Baldwin Park, California and was the state's first drive-through hamburger stand.

3. You can swim or surf in the Pacific Ocean and ski or snowboard all in the same day.

If you want snow and sand on the same day, California is the place for you.

4. California has the world's tallest forest!

The world's largest remaining forest of redwoods can be found here! These trees grow over 300 feet!

5. Professional sports teams galore!

California is home to award-winning sports teams with super spirited fans! The Los Angeles Dodgers have won six world series titles (5 of them as the Los Angeles Dodgers). The Golden State Warriors have won five NBA championships and the Los Angeles Lakers have won 16 NBA championships (11 in Los Angeles). Did I mention the state has 4 football teams in the NFL?

6. The great Southern California and Northern California debate

The NorCal and So Cal rivalry is amusing, to say the least. Some prefer palm trees, others prefer redwoods. Living in California gives you the opportunity to experience the sunshine and the fog if your schedule permits.

7. The California poppy

The California poppy grows wild throughout the state. The flower is otherwise known as copa de oro (cup of gold), which fits with the theme of gold. There is nothing more beautiful than the sight of the poppies at full bloom every April.

8. California's notable attractions

California is world famous for having the first Disneyland. The state is home to Hollywood, the entertainment capital of the world. California is also home to Yosemite National Park, Catalina Island, Angel Island, and so much more!

9. The attitude

The people in California are ambitious and always on the quest for something greater, just like the people who came here for gold in 1848. California is home to the top public universities in the world, as well as new technology and medicine. The attitude you find here is what sets California apart from everywhere else.

10. The culture

California is a melting pot, just like the rest of the United States. California successfully integrates foods, languages, apparel, and traditions from every part of the globe.

Some day I'll be ready to leave the Golden State, but that day is not today.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
