8 States In The U.S. We Often Take For Granted

Yes, all Americans (I hope) have heard the names of the states that make up the U.S.A. Unfortunately, most of these Americans probably have not visited all 50. I mean, that's a pretty difficult task. Personally, I have only seen a handful of the U.S., but I do know that a great deal of states are either often forgotten, or underestimated. So, here are 8 states in America we often take for granted to enlighten your knowledge.

1. Arizona

I have heard so often that this state consists of only "dry land". How about the Grand Canyon? Not to mention the endless amount of mountain ranges, and beautiful caves. Let's also not forget iconic towns like Tombstone, Phoenix, and Bisbee.

2. Massachusetts

Boston, Salem, Plymouth, oh my! This historic state is rich with unforgettable American landmarks.

3. New Mexico

This gem is an incredible destination with plenty to do. From gorgeous caverns, to Santa Fe, to historic adobe buildings, to Southwestern art, New Mexico is the place to be.

4. Illinois

I don't know about you, but I always forget that Chicago is apart of this wonderful state. Head to Wrigley field for some baseball, or to Navy Pier for some fun in the windy city, then enjoy some of that famous deep-dish pizza.

5. Texas

Despite Spongebob's opinion of this Southern state, Texas is nothing close to dumb. The Rio Grande flows through the Texas grounds, and Houston is the ninth largest city in America.

6. Rhode Island

What most people don't know is, Rhode Island is known for its sailing and Gilded Age mansions in the city of Newport, which is pretty cool. It's also home to Brown University, and a plethora of colonial towns.

7. Ohio

When I hear that Ohio is a state full of nothing, I don't believe it. Even though I am a true Michigander, Ohio does have some amazing sites. There are so many incredible state parks, a very impressive marching band, and of course, Cincinnati.

8. Michigan

(Bias Warning: This is my home-state). Michigan is crawling with tourist spots. From having two of the best teams in college football, to Mackinac, Detroit, Traverse City, and so many others. The great lakes really do make Michigan truly great. Where else can you use your hand as a very accurate map?

There you have it! Hope you learned a little something about these 8 states. Do you think your state is underrated?

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
