State Laws Should Ban EVERYONE From Using Their Cellphone While Driving

These days there are so many headlines about drinking and driving, but what about being on your cellphone and driving?

In today's society, it is as clear as crystal that our cellphones are everything, right? But what about when we are driving? They should not be everything, and that's pretty self-explanatory! Even during the day, if you take any time, approximately 660,000 drivers are probably using their phones while behind the wheel. Seriously, those are people's lives that these drivers are playing with. Yes, the technology in cars has definitely gotten better, but is it really enough to prevent these people from being on their phones?

As I am sure many of us know, today's cars have a hands-free link, which allows the driver to call others without even touching their phone. This new technology can be very distracting. Studies show taht not even voice-activated controls can prevent a driver from being completely safe because it can take 27 seconds for a driver who uses voice- activation to gain their attention after the command.

This study is one of many that is saying that even the new technology that allows drivers to call without lifting a finger can cause them to be distracted behind the wheel. The driver of the car is distracted for at least 27 seconds. Knowing the world today, anything can happen in those 27 seconds, like the death of an individual, which brings me to my next point about the safety of the individuals in and out of the car.

The safety of the individuals is one of the most important factors when driving because even the slightest glance away from the road can have severe consequences. According to a study at the University of Utah, driving with your cell phone in your hand is worse than drunk driving.

At school, we learn that drunk driving is awful, and there are laws against driving under possession. However, if being on your cell phone is actually worse, then a law against that even when someone is over the age of 18 should be made too because you do not want more people to die, yet currently, no state bans ALL drivers from being on their phone while driving.

Now, I do not have any personal experience with this, but many people often tell me that the people on their cell phones do not pay attention to the road, and many times, it causes many crashes that can end up fatal. I believe there should be a law against all people being on their phone while driving. By doing this, the number of crashes can decrease greatly. It will also be safer for everyone, and safety is always first when getting into a motor vehicle.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
