I am very happy to see that Doug Jones won the Senate seat for Alabama, and it is not even because I’m a Democrat. It's because I finally can see some glimmer of hope to the moral conscience of this nation. However, Doug Jones only won by 1.5%. This shows that a lot of people still supported Roy Moore despite his many scandals and alleged transgressions.
If you look even further into the polling data, you would see that over 60% of white women voted for Moore while 98% of black women voted for Jones. Essentially, black women saved Alabama. If it were not for 96% of the black population going out to vote, then there would be an alleged pedophile in the Senate. How is that okay? How does someone, who has voted for Moore, continue on with life thinking that they actually made a good decision? I’m assuming that they just don’t care about these issues. But then I question what exactly they are voting for. For the 60% of white women who voted for Moore, what did you expect out of him? Did you care so much about his stance on abortion that you could overlook that he preyed on teenage girls? All of this just confuses me.
Amongst his pedophilia allegations, Moore believes that homosexuality should be illegal, America was great during slavery, and US Muslim citizens should not be allowed in Congress. All of these philosophies are just wrong. Yet, many people still believed that Moore was a viable candidate. The president even decided to campaign for Moore. But, I guess I should not care so much about the president backing him because Trump has sexual assault allegations against him and he has said and done so many things that make me question if he is sane. Overall, I am satisfied with the outcome of the Alabama Senate election. However, I hope that as a nation we do better. There is no way to justify a vote for an alleged pedophile.
