How To Get Your Start On YouTube

Everybody and their momma has started a Youtube channel. Whether it's about make up tutorials, doing movie reviews, cover sings, or just gossip chats, there's always somebody doing a channel on Youtube. I've been doing Youtube as a serious thing for almost three years. I've grown to have close to 1,000 subscribers and have a little over 3,000 hours worth of views. I can tell you this, it wasn't instant viral like all the other Youtube stars you see on Instagram. It takes time to grow your channel and it's a misconception on how people start their channels. So here's an honest answer to how to start your Youtube channel.

1) Figure out what your channel is gonna be about

Brainstorm about what you want to put on your channel. What kind of videos do you want to post? Who do intend to post them for. How many per week? Do you want to add visuals and effects? Write down what you want to talk about and choose what you want to film.

2) Record your first video

Grab your camera or cell phone and record your first video. It may take you a couple of tries to film yourself and the editing process is pretty lengthy because there's a specific format to upload videos on Youtube.

3) Create a posting schedule

Giphy

The key to growing your channel and gaining subscribers is consistency. Creating a schedule for your upload will make people know your loyal to posting your content. Majority of people do it every week but that's a lot to do for a beginner. Start doing it every two weeks and then move up to posting every week, if your schedule permits it.

4) Share your content through social media

Giphy

Use your social media to your advantage. Every person has at least three social media account. Tweet the links to your video on Twitter. Post clips of your video to Instagram and share the link in your bio. Even share it to Facebook so people can watch.

5) Find Some Sponsors

Giphy

One your channel has a good amount of subscribers, it's now time to start looking for sponsors. Youtube checks aren't as big as people hype it up to be. A lot of start up companies like apps and online services like Audible and SeatGeek offer sponsorship to content creators in exchange for mentioning them in the video and using their promo code to discounts for those who watch their videos

6) Start making personalized merchandise

Giphy

Once you gain an audience, you'd want to make some personalized merch for your viewers. People make their own shirts, hats, all kinds of stuff. It could corealate with the theme of your channel or sayings you always say. Their are free designs online and you can sell them for cheap and those funds can also support your channel growth.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
