It's the most wonderful time of year!
Christmas? Not quite.
The time to schedule spring classes has fallen upon us, and it can be a mentally and emotionally draining task to get through the ten stages.
1. The first mention of next semester.
We're still drowning in homework from this semester; can't we take this college thing one semester at a time?
2. Meeting with your advisor.
No, I don't want early morning classes. Yes, I realize I have lots of credits left to take.
3. Starting to look at courses.
Trying to find interesting courses is especially hard when finishing the general education curriculum that is required for all majors. Also, why must multiple courses we need overlap?
4. Using a schedule building website to create the perfect schedule.
Bless anything that helps us avoid 8 a.m. lectures.
5. Seeing classes fill up as you wait to schedule.
Watching classes become full when you don't schedule for another two weeks is such a horrible feeling.
6. Realizing all of the classes you want are full.
Well, it's back to the drawing board as we scramble to find replacement options.
7. Scheduling with your new and "improved" course list.
Okay, maybe it's not the worst outcome, but it's definitely not what you wanted either.
8. Getting the last seat in a class.
There's nothing quite like the panic of hoping the seat actually is still available as you click submit.
9. Managing to still have a decent schedule - kind of?
At least there aren't any 8 a.m. labs, but 9 a.m. and evening classes honestly aren't much better.
10. Finally going back to your current classes to study for exams.
Though there's just over a month until finals, that means that there's still that much time until winter break.
Registering for classes is quite the time, and it never seems to get any easier.
Here's to the countless coffees and sleepless nights we'll inevitably have along the way.
