Ah, Snapchat. At this point, more people than not are familiar with the social media app; It had almost 190 million active users daily as of February 2018. Whether you love it or loathe it, Snapchat is virtually unavoidable, and more new users are joining every day.
Snapchat has improved a lot from when I first created an account in 8th grade, and with all the new features, people who are just hopping on the Snap trend are having a ball exploring all the features the app has to offer. Here are just a few of the stages a new Snapchatter goes through:
1. Figuring it out.
Snapchat can be a bit difficult to navigate when you first create an account. But once you finally figure out the basics, the real fun can begin.
2. Discovering the filters.
So many filters, so little time. Have you always dreamt of having dog ears? Or tiny, gold butterflies swarming around your head? Snapchat has you covered. Your selfie game just leveled up.
3. Advertising your new social media to everyone you know.
What good is social media if no one follows you? They'll plaster their new Snapcode or username all over their existing social media profiles and amass a following so they can have people to send all their filtered selfies to!
4. Discovering stories.
There's somewhere I can post that all my friends can see? Awesome! I'm going to post a 100-snap-long story about everything I've done today.
5. Posting non-stop.
We celebrate your right to use this new outlet in whatever way you please, but sometimes it's a bit excessive. Whether it be a never-ending stream of filter selfies or a vlog type set up where you tell us all about your whole day, your excitement for this new-found outlet can get kinda out of control. However, seeing your Snap evolution can be kind of entertaining for us seasoned Snapchat users.
6. Leaving the initial excitement behind and evolving into a normal Snapchat user.
Soon, the excitement will fade away and you'll begin posting at more normal intervals. You'll still love Snapchat and get excited when a new filter is released, but you won't feel the need to post 3 separate pictures of your lunch on your story anymore, and that's perfectly fine with us.
So whether you're a seasoned Snap pro, or you've just recently gone through these stages yourself, keep having fun with it and happy snapping!
